Hardwood Floor Installation
Hardwood installation planned around board direction, transitions, and how the new floor connects to the wood already in your home.
Amazonia Floors provides professional hardwood floor installation throughout Baltimore County, Baltimore City, Harford County, and surrounding Maryland communities. Since 2007, we’ve helped homeowners add new hardwood to individual rooms, carry wood flooring through connected spaces, and install new floors that work with the existing character of the home.
A good hardwood installation involves more than choosing a species and stain. Board direction, room layout, transitions, stairs, existing flooring, and the way the wood is finished all affect how the floor looks once the project is complete. Our team works through those details with you before and during installation so the new hardwood feels like it belongs in the space.
Solid or Engineered: Which Fits Your Home?
Solid Hardwood One piece of wood, top to bottom. Can be sanded and refinished many times over its life, which is part of why older homes still have their original floors. Best suited to rooms without regular moisture exposure.
Engineered Hardwood A hardwood veneer layered over a plywood-style core. More stable in areas prone to humidity or temperature shifts, and can often be installed in spaces solid hardwood isn’t recommended for. Can typically be refinished, though fewer times than solid wood.
We’ll talk through which option fits your specific rooms, not just your overall preference, since the right choice can vary from one space in the home to another.
Hardwood Installation Is in the Details
Some of the most important hardwood installation decisions happen before the first board goes down.
Which direction should the flooring run? How will it continue through a doorway? What happens where hardwood meets tile or carpet? Should the same flooring continue onto or alongside the staircase?
These details can determine whether separate rooms feel connected or whether the new flooring looks like it was added later.
Our hardwood installers pay attention to:
- Board direction and flooring layout
- Transitions between rooms and flooring materials
- Connections to existing hardwood
- Stairs, thresholds, doorways, and other visible edges
- Sanding and surface preparation
- Stain color and consistency
- The final finish and sheen
Our goal isn’t simply to install hardwood. It’s to make the finished floor work naturally with the rest of the home.
Adding Hardwood Next to an Existing Floor
Installing hardwood in a home that already has wood flooring presents a different challenge than starting with an empty space.
An addition, remodeled room, hallway, or damaged section may need new flooring installed next to hardwood that’s been there for years. In those situations, we look at board dimensions, wood appearance, layout, stain, and finish before determining the best way to connect the two areas.
Sometimes the goal is a close match. Other projects may call for an intentional transition between materials or finishes. We explain what’s realistic before installation begins so you know what to expect from the finished floor.
